Winter weddings

The holidays suddenly seem much closer on this side of Halloween as store displays shift from jack-o-lanterns to holiday merchandise. In all the bluster of Christmas and Thanksgiving, winter is the least popular season for weddings. The weather can present a problem, as do holiday travel plans. Even with all of the challenges that come with the season, however, winter weddings can be very unique. For one, the aesthetic of winter lends itself to a scenic, ethereal wedding. In Idaho, stunning snowy mountain landscapes offer a beautiful, natural backdrop for a memorable ceremony.  Winter sports and activities are central to the lives of many Idaho couples, so celebrating a union at a ski lodge or cabin is a fitting way for a couple to begin their lives together.

When planning a winter wedding, the most important thing to consider is the weather. Make sure you have a contingency plan in place, because winter weather is far more unpredictable than summer weather. You may even want to consider wedding insurance in the case that severe weather halts your nuptials. Keep your guests’ comfort in mind–if they have to walk through the snow or rain, plan to have umbrellas available for their walk. Once they arrive, greeting them with a scarf or hot drink helps warm them up and adds to the feeling of coziness and intimacy. Also keep in mind that traveling is more difficult in the winter, so a winter wedding may not be in your best interest if many of your guests will need to fly in.

Winter weddings offer a bride unique decorating options. Winter fashion offers up furs, scarves, robes, and boots for a twist on the traditional white dress. And because traditional flowers aren’t in season, think of choosing a wintery bouquet that includes berries and thistle. When choosing a color palette, Try to steer clear from mimicking holiday colors too closely, unless that’s what you’re going for. Use winter for color inspiration–muted, elegant colors such as white, silver, grey, or copper. Use candles–they provide great warmth and light to a setting.

Winter in Idaho offers a stunning setting for a wedding ceremony. A winter wedding can be a truly unique and beautiful occasion, but Idaho brides must plan accordingly.
